To use e-learning content students need to access it using a Learning Management System. There are dozens of Learning Management Systems available, with different features, and it can be hard to know which one is right for your needs.

Here are some important things to look for when choosing an LMS for your RTO:

VET compliance. Many LMS are not customised for Australian RTOs, and use different terminology or systems to handle learning content. This can be confusing to the student and RTO staff. We always recommend using software that has been designed for the Australian VET sector.
Smart Phone compatability. With over 40% of students in VET accessing their courses using a smart-phone, it is important that the LMS you use works well on smart-phone screens.
Export of data. no matter which system you use you must be able to export data and results easily.
Back-up of data. Always read the fine print in any contracts from a software provider. Are there adequate ways for you to back-up data, including student academic records, records of assessment, and assessment tools? Some software providers do not allow RTOs to back-up this data, which is a risk for the RTO at audit.
Customer service. Many LMS software companies have terrible customer service, which can be very frustrating for their clients. Make sure the software provider offers good customer service every step of the way.
